Location

Woolavington is an historic village, dating back to at least Saxon times and was included in the Domesday book. It stands on the Polden Hills between the towns of Street, Somerton and Glastonbury to the east and Bridgwater to the west. It’s a large village with a shop, primary school, doctors’ surgery and a friendly community.

The Grange is situated in the heart of the village, amongst other period houses and close to the Grade 1 listed church.

Description

The Grange, originally the manor house, dates back to the 16^th century, was rebuilt in the 17^th century and altered over the following eras. It’s a most attractive stone building with double-Roman and pantile roofs, coped verges and gabled windows.

Built on the traditional cross-passage plan with two storeys and an attic floor, it has moulded wooden-mullioned windows, wooden lintols, some iron casements and mainly leaded lights.

The history of the house continues with the current owners having carried out extensive renovation and improvement works with re-roofing the entire property, re-wiring, re-plumbing, re-furbishing and repairs where necessary. Original floors have been retained or repaired and there is a combination of oak and elm boards, tiles, and sisal carpeting.
